We are delighted to present our Adult and Workplace Conference for 2019, our theme this year is Dyslexia and Dyscalculia: Journey to Empowerment. Our keynote speakers will discuss key issues around these learning differences, including positive dyslexia and creating a neurodiverse workplace.

Keynote Speakers

Peter Jarrett, Chair of BDA Dyscalculia Committee

Pete Jarrett is Managing Director of Tutorum Training and Consultancy, Chair of the BDA Dyscalculia Committee and a Lecturer at Bath Spa University. An AMBDA qualified teacher and assessor specialising in maths learning difficulties and dyscalculia.

Clare Trott, Loughborough University

Clare's current research interests focus on mathematics and specific learning differences in higher education, particularly in dyscalculia and in dyslexia within STEM subjects. She has developed of a first-line screener for dyscalculia.

Arran Smith, Microsoft

Arran Smith of Microsoft, presents the latest innovations by the team Microsoft to 'Empower Potential'! He makes reference to his journey with Dyslexia throughout the session too, linking technological innovation with the gifts and challenges of those who are Neurodiverse.

Professor Angela Fawcett

Vice President of the BDA, and an internationally recognised academic and researcher, Angela is an expert in the field. In recent years she has worked at Sheffield University, Swansea University aswell as overseas in Singapore.

Professor Rod Nicolson, Edge Hill University

A world renowned expert in dyslexia, Professor Nicolson, begin the 'Positive Dyslexia' movement in 2012, it's aim was to rectify the emphasis on dyslexia as a disability and emphasize the positives, talents and gifts associated with this learning difference.
