Cheering on our 26.2 mile heroes!
Wednesday 26 April 2023

For me, distance running is an incredible feat and on Sunday I had the privilege of standing at the side at Monument to cheer on our 25 amazing runners during the London Marathon.
When I arrived (and I was just spectating) I felt nervous for them all, and you can definitely sense the anticipation, anxiety and excitement in the air wherever you are on the route. As I stood there and watched the Wheelchair race and then the Elite Women runners just glide past, I genuinely had butterflies for our team.
We were situated at the 23-mile mark and we saw some incredibly jaded individuals, all fighting their own battles within to keep going. It is pretty tricky spotting people but seeing our first runner – Tom Colville, was absolutely amazing. I was so excited to see them that I forgot to actually take a picture, which was my role! Every time we saw Team BDA the whole of London heard about it.
Thank you so much to all our runners, you really are heroes and I found every one of you so inspiring. I am not sure that Marathon running is for me, I have only managed to do a 10K before but you inspired me to take on my own challenge for the British Dyslexia Association. I have signed up for the London Summer 25km Event in August. If you fancy joining me, have a look here there are lots of challenges that suit all different abilities.
Maybe I will see you back in London in August…wish me luck!
