Deadline for the SASC amnesty for APC applications is 31 March 2020
The deadline for the SASC amnesty for APC applications is 31 March 2020 and this is fast approaching. If you have already applied for AMBDA membership and/or an APC please ignore this email, but we are trying to make sure that we capture everyone.
We want to remind you that AMBDA became a professional membership from the 1 April 2019, to bring it into line with the DfE changes to the acceptance of assessment reports written for those claiming the Disabled Student Allowance.
The DfE confirmed that a report written at any age will be accepted by Student Finance England (SFE) in support of a DSA application only if it was conducted and written by an assessor holding a valid Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), or by a HCPC-registered psychologist, at the time of the assessment.
To hold an APC, you must have professional membership with the professional body that awarded it, for the British Dyslexia Association this is now AMBDA the annual fee for this is £70. To maintain this membership, AMBDA holders are expected to adhere to the British Dyslexia Association Code of Ethics and commit to continuing professional development and to submit a CPD log every three years on the anniversary of their membership. This submission is now included in the annual AMBDA fee. For more information please click here.
AMBDA holders also receive these following annual benefits:
- British Dyslexia Association Contact magazine three times a year
- Discount on British Dyslexia Association conferences
- Discount on British Dyslexia Association in-person training courses
- Professional indemnity insurance at members’ rate through the Alan Boswell Group
- Members’ rate for the Dyslexia Journal, published four times a year and online access
- British Dyslexia Association e-newsletters
- Eligible to be on British Dyslexia Association Tutor List
- Invitation to the British Dyslexia Association AGM
All existing holders of AMBDA should convert their accreditation to AMBDA as a membership before 31 March 2020. The easiest way to do this is to apply though the British Dyslexia Association website and scan in your current AMBDA or CPD certificate as evidence in place of the tutor form that the website asks for. Please use this link.
All applications made through the British Dyslexia Association website before 5pm on Tuesday 31 March will be honoured.
