Dyslexia Awareness Week 2019
Monday 14 October 2019
Running from 7th-13th October, this year’s Dyslexia Awareness Week witnessed schools and businesses all around the country celebrating, supporting and empowering people with dyslexia.
A huge thank you to every single person who took time out of their week to get involved; from running school assemblies and awareness sessions in your classroom, to holding workplace awareness sessions, and to those individuals who stood tall in front of their colleagues and classmates to educate them on dyslexia.
The week has been a massive success with the British Dyslexia Association seeing over 40 million impressions across social media and thousands of you downloading our awareness packs for schools, higher education, and the workplace! You can still browse what we’ve been up to by following our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram or by searching the hashtag #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek across social media.
British Dyslexia Association CEO, Helen Boden, has also been incredibly busy on her own Dyslexia Awareness Week journey, from interesting interviews with the BBC to a trip to Feltham Young Offender Institute: “This year, we asked organisations to come together and explore empowering dyslexia. The response has been overwhelming. It has been great to travel around the country seeing organisations championing dyslexia. Thank you!”
Helen joined technology giant Thales where over 200 staff from 10 sites joined together for a ‘Let's Learn’ dyslexia awareness session: “It is great to know that a company the size and scope of Thales is committed to supporting its employees and raising awareness of dyslexia and neurodiversity.”
You can read about Helen’s Dyslexia Awareness Week journey in more detail on our blog.
Thank you to everyone for their amazing efforts this Dyslexia Awareness Week. We hope you will continue to spread the word and explore how to empower dyslexia in your organisation, maximising the value it brings, and we look forward to bringing you an even bigger and better awareness week in 2020!
Thank you to our sponsors this year: Nessy, QS Dyslexia Tests and Claro Software.
