A huge well done to Laura Wykes on her Disco Spin fundraiser, raising an amazing £240 for The British Dyslexia Association.
Laura shares why she chose to fundraise for us and tells us about the great time they had doing it!
'I wanted to raise money and funds for the charity that I support and will be running for this year in the London Marathon.
I grew up seeing the impact that dyslexia can have on a child when support is not given, and how this then went on to affect life as an adult with very low self-esteem. My daughter is also dyslexic and I was shocked to discover that the education system still isn't inclusive. The charity (BDA) has been a safe place to go to for advice and support – particularly during the home-school phases of lockdown.
Many members of my family have dyslexia, but my main push is for my daughter, Esme.
I ran a disco themed spin class for 21 participants. Prizes were given out for the best costume, and the most enthusiastic participant. The final amount from the spin class was £240.
The participants were all great fun and very supportive of my reasons for raising money for the charity. It was a pleasure to instruct to everyone in the room.
Be vocal about your reasons for supporting your charity, when people understand your perspective it is easier to get them to help you achieve your target'.
