Concerns raised by BDA to Lord Addington about Warwickshire Educational Psychology Service "Teaching Children & Young People with Literacy Difficulties, Practice Guidance"

Wednesday 31 October 2018

Following questions in the House of Lords yesterday regarding the concerns raised by the BDA to Lord Addington about the document produced by Warwickshire Educational Psychology Service, "Teaching Children & Young People with Literacy Difficulties, Practice Guidance" and the very similar document produced by Staffordshire County Council...

The BDA was gratified with the level of cross party support in opposition to this document. The statement made by Lord Agnew in response to questions was particularly pleasing: "Early diagnosis does make a huge difference. It helps very much with the self esteem of the child in question and enables interventions to take place earlier that help to establish that child on a strong educational pathway".

The BDA has long campaigned on the importance of early diagnosis and intervention and this represents a clear statement that supports this position by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the School System.
