The University of Chester announces launch of MA in Dyscalculia Research and Practice
Thursday 5 September 2019
The University of Chester is pleased to announce the launch, this September, of an MA in Dyscalculia Research and Practice.
This is the first of its kind in the UK. The first two years are validated by the BDA to allow the successful student to apply for ATS in Maths/Dyscalculia at the end of year one and AMBDA Maths/Dyscalculia at the end of year two, thus qualifying individuals to assess for Dyscalculia/maths differences.
The course has also been structured to enable those who already hold the original AMBDA qualification (Schools or FE/HE) to follow a shortened, stand alone course of one year so that they can add the AMBDA Maths/Dyscalculia to their qualifications.
Attendance is through weekend schools, Friday evening 5 – 7 and Saturdays 9.30 – 4 on six weekends across the year. As well as the taught sessions materials are available to registered students online via Moodle for studying at home.

Difficulties with maths and dyscalculia are issues that the BDA frequently hear about and we are committed to raising awareness of these issues along with helping those working in education to develop the skills they need to identify and support individuals with these challenges through our own training and conferences. We are therefore very pleased to hear that Chester University are the first to launch an MA in this subject that enables individuals undertaking the course to gain the specialist skills they need in both support and assessment of dyscalculia and maths learning difficulties.
