Warwickshire Council withdraw document "Teaching Children & Young People with Literacy Difficulties Practise Guidance"
Friday 2 November 2018
The BDA has received some good news today and are delighted to hear that Warwickshire Council have chosen to withdraw their document "Teaching Children & Young People with Literacy Difficulties Practise Guidance" and would very much welcome the opportunity to engage in the consultation process that they are undertaking moving forward.
Our goals of early identification and appropriate intervention and support for dyslexic individuals, so that they can achieve their potential, are the same. We will look forward to hearing from Warwickshire in due course. The BDA does though feel that this sends a clear message that organisations responsible for providing these services must be mindful that their guidance, policy decisions and practises will be subject to scrutiny and where necessary challenged.
Whilst the BDA are aware that many councils nationally are looking to cut costs there remains a clear statutory duty to support individuals with dyslexia and other SEN.
