We need you this Dyslexia Week
Thursday 13 August 2020
With Dyslexia Week fast approaching, we’re putting our plans in place to raise awareness and create real change for people with dyslexia.
We want your videos
We’re looking for people from the dyslexia community to send in short videos sharing their experiences of living, working and studying with dyslexia. We’d also like to encourage teachers and assessors to send in their experiences too. The theme of Dyslexia Week is Dyslexia Creates, but we want to see it all, and to share your lived experience with our supporters.
Here are some ideas that you might want to focus on, but feel free to share whatever you want:
- Dyslexia creates artists
- Dyslexia creates unique minds
- Dyslexia creates entrepreneurs
- Dyslexia creates challenges
- Dyslexia creates inequality
- Dyslexia creates prejudice
Videos can be as short and snappy as you like, we just need to see your experiences of the positives or challenges that dyslexia has created for you.
Top tips for filming
We don’t need you to be Steven Spielberg, all you need is a phone or a webcam.
We’re looking for authentic videos so if it’s a little wobbly please don’t worry! Here are some of our top tips for creating your videos:
- Framing your video: Make sure the camera is landscape (hold your phone horizontally rather than upright).
- Check your microphone: We need to be able to hear you, so please make sure you’re not too far away from the camera so the microphone can hear you.
- Lights, camera, action: Lighting can make all the difference, so make sure you’re not filming in a room that’s too dark. It’s also important not to have too much light in the background as this will make it hard to see you (this is called backlighting)
What to do next
Please send videos to externalrelations@bdadyslexia.org.uk by Friday 11 September and let us know if you have any questions.
