How to become an SpLD assessor with BDA accreditation

To become an assessor for either dyslexia or dyscalculia who holds AMBDA, you need to complete a relevant postgraduate (Level 7) AMBDA accredited course. On completing an AMBDA accredited course you can apply for AMBDA/AMBDA FE-HE/AMBDA dyscalculia and an APC with the BDA within three years of your end date.

AMBDA/AMBDA FE-HE/AMBDA dyscalculia are BDA accreditations which recognise the assessor’s skills in both specialist teaching and assessment.

An APC is a certificate that recognises achievement at postgraduate level and the individual’s ongoing commitment to CPD. The criteria for submitting and renewing an APC is overseen by SASC: https://www.sasc.org.uk/

AMBDA/AMBDA FE-HE/AMBDA dyscalculia/ AMBDA dyscalculia FE/HE and an APC need to be renewed every three years to keep them current. Professional members of the BDA with an AMBDA accreditation can renew their APC and AMBDA together. As you will need to hold professional membership to hold your APC with us, your AMBDA CPD would be reviewed for free, as it is for all those with BDA professional membership. There is a fee for APC renewal.

For more information see Assessment Practising Certificate page.

Holders of an APC issued by the BDA are required to hold Professional Membership of the BDA (AMBDA) for the duration of their APC.
