Who is it suitable for?
This introductory course is suitable for anyone wishing to learn about some of the difficulties and issues that children and adults may experience that prevents them from acquiring maths skills. The course explores how to enhance the learning environment, both at home and in the classroom, to make it more accessible for those with dyscalculia and maths difficulties. The course is suitable for everyone and requires no previous knowledge of dyscalculia.
Learning Aims
- This course will look at what can cause individuals to struggle with maths and outline what the difference is between maths learning difficulties and dyscalculia.
- To learn how to spot individual difficulties and the strategies to correctly support them at home or in the classroom, including the importance of using hands-on and multisensory equipment to make learning maths enjoyable and reduce maths anxiety

Course Leader - Amanda Lynch
Amanda has had 25+ years teaching experience from early years to year 6. She was also the Maths Lead for much of this time and completed the primary MaST (Maths Specialist Teacher) course in 2010. She completed the L5/L7 Dyscalculia/maths learning difficulties course at Edge Hill University in 2015, the L7 dyscalculia assessors qualification at Chester in 2020 and L5/L7 qualifications in Dyslexia from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2021. In addition to her ongoing work tutoring maths and assessing for dyscalculia/dyslexia, Amanda has worked for the BDA since 2021 and is currently the course leader for Level 5 Dyscalculia.
Joining Instructions for Live Virtual Training
Joining instructions will be sent to the registered email address approximately 24hrs ahead of the training event. If the events start date falls on a Monday, these details will be sent out on the preceding Friday.
Please note joining instrutions will only be sent if payment has been received. If paying by invoice this should be paid within 30 days or 3 working days prior to the event date, whichever is soonest.
