Where does your dyslexia story begin?

I was diagnosed with Dyslexia while I was studying at university. The diagnosis left me feeling confused. I have worked in the construction industry for over ten years. Since leaving university I have struggled with poor mental health, and this enabled me to seek a recent diagnosis of ADHD. I have struggled to work and learn in my job and I am still trying to juggle my struggles.

What are your dyslexia strengths?

My dyslexic strengths are my problem-solving ability and critical thinking. I am also an effective communicator and very adaptable.

What are your key dyslexia struggles?

I find it difficult to understand verbal instructions. I also struggle with written work and reading and need additional time to complete my work.

What would you say to inspire others on their journey with dyslexia?

Never give up. Create awareness and promote ideas, including reasonable adjustments. We can encourage more businesses to support staff with neurodivergence. We must roll the drum and make some loud noise until we are heard and listened to. One day, more support will be available if we all continue to try.
